OUTSIDE AT THE GATE AT NIGHT:
King David shakes in sorrow.
Solomon steadies him.
King David shakes, holding Solomon's hand.
He staggers up to the room over the gateway, tears flooding his every step, wailing:
KING DAVID
O my son AbShalom!
KING DAVID
My son, my son AbShalom!
KING DAVID
I wish to Elohim I had died in your place!
KING DAVID
O Absalom, my son;
KING DAVID
My SON!
King David’s cry echoes across the hills and deserts of Israel, frightening lions.
