How To Help People Without Doing Evil
When I handed out food, | I created the evil of dependency. |
When I took into the monastery a child who had parents, | I weakened the bond between the parents and the children. |
When I educated the children, | I took away the parent's responsibility to educate their own children, and planted the seed of the socialist educational system. |
When I paid to have the children's cavities filled, | I reinforced their poor eating and hygiene habits. They got nice looking diseased teeth. |
When I put the children to work, this was good for them, | but it also took them away from their parents. |
When I gave out antibiotics and anti-parasitics, | I encouraged antibiotic resistance. |
When I gave the children books to read, | they tore up the books, so more trees had to be cut down. |
When I gave the children clothes, | they tore up the clothes. |
When I gave the children shoes, | their feet got soft and weak. |
When I showed children videos of biblical and education subjects, | I encouraged television addiction... |
When I provided sports ministry, | I encouraged an amoral leisure culture. |
No matter what I did, | there was always some evil... |
Except in one thing:
Teaching the children scripture songs.
I couldn't think of one thing about teaching children scripture songs that could possibly do any harm.
And the scriptures did much good...
- the songs taught children how to live wisely.
- The scripture songs encouraged good relations with with their parents.
- The children took home the scripture songs and taught the songs to their parents.
- The scripture songs encouraged good eating habits and good hygiene.
- The scripture songs encouraged responsibility, hard work, and independence.
A scripture song is a miraculous thing: It spreads its great bounty of goodness like multiplying rabbits, and can do absolutely no harm to anyone.
